3rd Grade Language Arts Proficiency

3rd grade language arts proficiency is equal to the number of students who scored "proficient" or "distinguished" on the Language Arts section of Georgia's Milestones End-of-Grade Assessment divided by the number of students tested. Until the end of third grade, most students are still in the process of learning to read. Studies have shown students who have not learned to read by third grade graduate high school and attend college at lower levels than their peers.
